IT'S A JOKE!!! (What were YOU thinking)?
Several years ago, I won a gift certificate to Amazon from Constant Contact, for which I am a I Certified Solutions Provider. I had always wanted a skeleton, so I ordered one, and named him Herman. Herman sat in my office for a couple of years.
When I decided to build this Rat Rod, and with motivation from my past hot rods, I decided to include Herman in the build. I wanted a hot rod again, but didn't want to mess around with body work, paint and troublesome accessories like upholstery, air conditioning, heater - things you really didn't need to just drive around and have fun.
I take the Rat Rod (and Herman) to several car shows each year. Herman and his new pet 'Rosy the Cat' are a bigger hit than the Rat Rod!
My Rat Rod is a 1936 Chevrolet Pickup, on a 1985 Chevrolet S-10 Frame
It's a 327 Chevrolet with a mild cam. I know, I know, the valve covers say 350, but why buy new ones when I already had these? The engine came from a 1969 Chevrolet Camero - or so 'they' said. The exhausts are headers running through cherry bomb mufflers (but they don't muffle much)! And no, the fuel injection is not real.
The transmission is a rebuilt Chevrolet 350 automatic (I'm old, I don't need to be shifting).
Custom Aluminum wheels with Mohawk Predator SRS tires. Disc brakes are on the front. and drum on the back.
The 'pickup box' was fabricated from old fence slats. The 'gas cap' is on a brand new fuel tank from a Mustang, and the lid covering the tank is held down with a small magnet (see photo in the 'The Build.'). The grille is from a McCormick Deering tractor. The gauges on the dashboard are from Speedway Motors. The bucket seats are from a junkyard (no idea what they are out of).
My only future plans for this vehicle are to maybe add a tachometer, a hood cover, a supercharger and an LS 570 engine (just kidding)!
Another goal is to get my wife to ride in it. She is still upset that I even built it in the first place!
I am originally from Hastings, NE. I have owned many cars over the years, but this one is special. I have worked on cars all my life, but at my age, this is the perfect vehicle for me, There is no heater, no conditioner, upholstery, or body work to keep up. I can do the rest!
